Liposuction in Turkey
The number of fat cells in the adult human body is constant. After puberty, the number of fat cells does not increase, but the volume of fat cells increases. This results in weight gain.Nutritional habits and lifestyle are the most important factors in people gaining and losing weight.
To get rid of excess weight, proper diet and exercise and a regular lifestyle are essential. However, even those who meet these conditionsmay have persistent fat deposits that do not disappear.Certain areas of the body such as the abdomen, waist, hips, outer and inner thighs, knees are are fat accumulation areas that are resistant to diet and exercise.Excessive fat in these areas is eliminated to some extent by diet and exercise, further exercise and diet results in disruption of the body’s overall metabolism rather than thinning in these areas.
What is Liposuction?
Liposuction is a surgery in which fat accumulations in certain parts of the body are absorbed by a special vacuum or special injectors and fat is removed from the body.It is definitely not a weight loss surgery, it is a body contour correction surgery. With this surgery, the increased volume, diet and exercise-resistant fat tissue is removed from the body, while the number of existing fat cells is reduced.
In liposuction surgery, the stubborn fat area is inflated by a special liquid injection. Then, several incisions of a few mm length are made on or near this area. From these incisions, the metal tubes called cannulas with a diameter of 2-6 mm are inserted into the subcutaneous layer and the cannulas are connected to the vacuum device with transparent hoses.
Vacuum device is operated, cannulas are moved at the appropriate depth in the fat accumulation areas and the process of removing excess fat begins. The process of absorbing fats through vacuum continues until the desired body contour and a smooth skin surface are achieved. In recent years, ultrasound energy has begun to be utilized. In this method, the excess fat tissues are broken down by ultrasound waves and then removed in vacuum in a similar way.
With liposuction, more stubborn fats are removed from deep layers, in the last 10 years, superficial liposuction or liposculpture method can be used to eliminate fat deposits that cause contour irregularities.Liposculpture technique has also become a definitive method for removing skin sagging and eliminating stubborn cellulite.
The classical liposuction procedure caused serious problems due to the fact that the cannula diameters used in the 1970s were quite large and sharp and the vacuum devices used were not sufficient. The process can cause significant loss of fluid and electrolyte in the body. There have been patients who have died after this surgery. These problems are left behind today. With the techniques that have been applied for the last 10 years, Iiposuction has taken its indispensable place in body contour correction. As long as the goal is not losing weight but contour correction, it is a surgery that does not have any risk if the safety limit is not exceeded in a well-selected patient with a well-applied technique in hospital conditions.Today, the safety limit is accepted as 2.5 – 4.5 liters in different sources. There are the ones to take more fat.In this case, precautions are taken to complete the fluid and electrolyte balance of the patient, sometimes blood transfusions may be necessary. In patients with extreme obesity called morbid obesity, it is possible to take up to 28 liters of fat in a single session by taking the necessary precautions .
Surgery is performed in the operating room and under the supervision of the anesthesiologist under hospital conditions. A combination of local anesthesia and sedation (vascular anesthesia) is preferred. In very limited small areas, only local anesthesia can be performed. The operation lasts between 1-5 hours depending on the condition of the areas to be vacuumed. Cannula input holes are usually not sewn or put 1-2 stitches.Sometimes special thin tubes (drains) are put into the areas using cannula holes, this helps to drain the serum accumulated inside.Depending on the extent of the surgery, it is possible to leave the hospital on the same day or 24 hours later.
It is usually comfortable after surgery. Pain is very low and can be relieved with medication. At the end of the operation, a special bandage is applied to the areas where vacuum is applied and a special corset is worn for the patient. The dressings are made on the patient after surgery. The patient continues to wear the corset for 5-6 weeks. There may be purplish color changes in vacuum-applied areas. There may be swelling, tingling and burning sensations. These disappear spontaneously within 3 weeks. Surgery scars also become hardly visible within 2-6 months.
Which areas are suitable for liposuction?
The fat accumulation in many areas of the body such as under chin, cheeks, neck, upper inner side of arm, breasts, chest, abdomen, waist, hip, thigh, inner side of knee, back of legs have become possible to be removed with vacuum. It is also used as a complementary procedure in other body contour correction surgeries (tummy tuck, breast reduction, etc.).
Is there any scar after Liposuction?
The input holes of the cannules (liposuction metal tubes) are usually 2-4 mm.The remaining marks of these are vaguely visible. The scars in this surgery are negligible.
How many liters of fat can be removed at a time? Can Liposuction be performed again?
Up to 4-5 liters of fat can be taken without disturbing the patient’s balance and body functions. But there are also surgeons who take more by giving fluids and blood. Here is the surgeon’s choice. If the patient’s areas are large, the surgery can be performed again with intervals of 3-6 months.
